Allies in Indigenous Health (Online)

Description

Allies in Indigenous Health is an evidenced based module. Research shows that by completing this module you will increase your knowledge and understanding, and in addition, develop your critical consciousness in relation to healthcare equity for Indigenous peoples. Allies in Indigenous Health covers the five learning domains of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Curriculum Framework. The first domain Respect focuses on historical context, Indigenous knowledges, diversity, humility and lifelong learning. The second domain Reflection examines cultural self and health care, racism, anti-racism and white privilege. The third domain Communication delves into culturally safe communication and partnerships. The fourth domain Safety and Quality considers evidence and strengths-based approaches and the final domain Advocacy looks at equity, human rights and leadership.

Each of the five domains features a learning journey with: pre and post quizzes; video stories featuring a diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and knowledge holders and; interactive activities. Each learning journey is followed by a critical consciousness building activity whereby you will be posed a case challenge to complete. Whilst there is no formal assessment, you will be provided with expert opinions so you can critically evaluate your own responses to questions. The five learning domains contained within the module are designed to be completed consecutively to build and consolidate your learning. The construction of the module is practice focussed and incorporates elements that Indigenous health consumers identify as desired care. It is anticipated you will need to dedicate approximately 8 hours of study to complete the module and you will be able to self-generate a Certificate of Completion once all activities are successfully completed.
